Hashrate Heat Calculator

What does your heat really cost?

A bitcoin miner turns every watt it draws into heat, the same as an electric heater, and it earns bitcoin while it runs. Choose what you're heating to see what that heat really costs you.

Heat your hot tub with bitcoin

HashTub by Snorkel × Hashrate HouseStack sats while you soakA handcrafted cedar tub heated by bitcoin mining, configured and sold by Snorkel.

Estimates only, not financial advice. Mining revenue uses the live or entered BTC price and network hashrate. Projections apply every halving (about every four years) and your growth assumptions. Miners run only when heat is called for, and all miner power is counted as delivered heat. Climate comes from state-average heating degree days by ZIP, or from the zone you pick.

Methodology

How the calculator estimates your heat.

  1. 01

    Your heat demand

Hot tub heat loss from size, water temperature and soaks; hot water from household size and inlet temperature; home heating from square footage, insulation and your climate (state heating degree days by ZIP).

  2. 02

    What the miner covers

The miner runs only when heat is called for. Every watt it draws becomes heat, so its run time is capped by your demand and by its power.

  3. 03

    What it earns

Hashprice from the live BTC price, network hashrate and transaction fees (mempool.space), minus a pool fee. Each halving cuts the block reward in half.

  4. 04

    What you compare against

The same heat made with electric resistance, a heat pump (seasonal COP adjusted for climate and elevation), natural gas, propane or oil, including equipment you'd buy or replace anyway.

Calculator FAQ

How the numbers work.

How does a bitcoin miner heat my home or water?

A bitcoin miner turns essentially all of the electricity it draws into heat, the same as an electric resistance heater. Hashrate House systems capture that heat in a liquid loop and move it into a hot tub, a water heater tank, or your home's heating system, while the miner earns bitcoin.

Where does the calculator's bitcoin data come from?

The BTC price, network hashrate, and the share of recent block rewards paid as transaction fees load live from mempool.space each visit, with Coinbase's public spot price as a backup. You can override any of them in Advanced mode.

What is hashprice?

Hashprice is what one terahash per second of mining earns in a day, in dollars. It rises with the bitcoin price and transaction fees and falls as the network's total hashrate grows and at each halving.

Does the calculator account for the bitcoin halving?

Yes. The long-term projection cuts the block reward in half at each halving (next expected around April 2028, then about every four years), along with your chosen growth rates for the bitcoin price and network hashrate.

What is the difference between selling monthly and stacking sats?

Selling monthly assumes the bitcoin the miner earns is sold each month to pay its power bill. Stacking sats assumes you keep every sat and pay the power bill in dollars, so your result depends on the bitcoin price at the end of the period.

How accurate are these estimates?

They're estimates, not guarantees or financial advice. Results depend on your power price, climate, how much heat you actually use, the bitcoin price, and network difficulty. For a sizing estimate for your home, book a consultation with the Hashrate House team.
